Lyman Woods Forest Preserve
Forest Preserve, Bee Farm, Park District
Develop a new label for the limited-supply jars of freshly harvested honey produced in Lyman Woods. Two sizes of honey jars will be produced – 8 oz. and 1 lb. Label must be low cost to produce and easy to assemble.
Any honey connoisseur will agree how the habitat and surrounding nature of the bees will greatly affect the honey produced.
And in Lyman Woods, the bees have a unique and precious area of land to explore. As a nature preserve, Lyman Woods not only has a wide variety of trees and wildlife that flourishes on its grounds, but also features a large area of oak trees that have been undisturbed by humans since the mid-1800’s.
It was my goal to produce a label that was unique and pulled away from cliché, so honeycomb and bee elements were used in sparing and subtle ways and the focus was placed on the incredibly unique surroundings that influence the honey being produced.
To reflect this heritage, the label features oak leaves flourishing wildly around the hand-lettered name. The layout and shapes of the label drew inspiration from vintage labels, posters and linotypes.
